Why Night Changes the World of The Eternal Prince

The world of The Eternal Prince feels different at night.

During the day, a castle can simply be a castle. A forest can simply be a forest. But once the light disappears, familiar places begin to feel uncertain.

That is why I use nighttime so often when imagining the atmosphere of the story.

Familiar Places Become Mysterious

Moonlight hides as much as it reveals.

A road that feels ordinary during the day can become completely different when only a few lanterns remain. Trees become silhouettes. Towers disappear into clouds. Windows become small points of light in the distance.

Nothing has actually changed.

But it feels as though it has.

The Kingdom Feels Larger

Night also makes the world feel bigger.

You cannot see everything around you, so your imagination fills the missing space. A forest seems deeper. Palace walls seem taller. A distant mountain feels farther away.

That uncertainty suits The Eternal Prince because the story is not supposed to feel completely understood from the beginning.

Alexander is entering a world that still has secrets.
